Review: Chinese Whispers and Other Stories

I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Chinese Whispers and Other Stories and chatting with artist-curator Pia Johnson a few weeks ago.

Through photography and video, four *amazing* emerging female Australian artists of Chinese descent - Johnson, Tammy Law, Janelle Low and Siying Zhou - challenge the viewer's assumptions of (Asian-)Australian identity, migration, home and belonging.

The exhibition, together with Professor Jacqueline Lo's speech, moved and inspired me.

The exhibition closes this Sunday 21 May and there will be an in-conversation event on 'Exploring Chinese-Australian contemporary art and the female perspective' at 2pm.

'Chinese Whispers and Other Stories' also exhibit in Melbourne 21 June - 8 July.
